Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli, a critical student summoned to serve his prison sentence

Human Rights in Iran – Today, on Monday, June 15th 2020, branch 1 of the Enforcement of Criminal Judgement of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Tehran’s district 28 issued a statement summoning Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli, a critical university student residing in Tehran to serve prison sentence.

According to Human Rights in Iran, on Monday, June 15th 2020, Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli Amoli, a critical university student living in Tehran was summoned by branch 1 of the Enforcement of Criminal Judgements of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor ‘s Office in Tehran’s district 28 to serve his 6 months prison term on charge of propaganda against the government. This critical student was sentenced in February (2020) by the Tehran Court of Appeals to 6 months in prison.

On January 30th (2020), Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli Amoli, a critical university student who had previously been sentenced to 6 months in prison by branch 1059 of the 2nd Criminal Court of Tehran on charge of “insulting the president”, following the referral of the case to branch 69 of the Tehran Court of Appeals, presided over by “Valiollah Fattahi” and the court advisor “Reza Samadi”, his verdict was exactly upheld there.

According to the lawsuit filed by branch 69 of Tehran Court of Appeals: “The charge against Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli Amoli by which the Court of Appeals sentenced him to 6 months in prison was because of insulting the presidency that caused the Legal Deputy and Supervision of Headquarters to stage a complaint against him. Following a protest against the verdict issued by branch 1059 of 2nd Criminal Court of Tehran, the case of Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli Amoli was referred to the Tehran’s Court of Appeals that according to it the verdict handed down by the primitive court was exactly upheld.

It should be noted that Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli on November 25th 2018 had referred to Evin Prison to serve his prison sentence, but due to the fact that he was not present during the hearing session by branch 1059 of the 2nd Criminal Court of Tehran, he was sentenced in absentia. Following an appeal and after the judge’s approval, he was released on bail up to the completion of investigation procedures.

He had previously been summoned to branch 1059 of 2nd Criminal Court of Tehran following a complaint by Seyed Mohammad Mirlowhi, the Legal Deputy and Supervisor of Hassan Rouhani’s Central Election Campaign and eventually was sentenced to 6 months in prison.

During the 2017 presidential election, Amir-Reza Alipour Hashtli raised a purple lingerie that was “the color of Hassan Rouhani’s election campaign” and accused him of using it (the purple color) as a mean for citizens, especially women and girls to win votes.

The suppression of citizens and the imposition of security charges against them are among the cases violating Human Rights, and is in the line of the repression of Freedom of Speech in Iran, which there is an emphasis on it in International Instrument of Human Rights, in Article 19 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as Article 19 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on 16 December 1966.

Also the individuals’ right to a fair trial is one of the inalienable rights accentuated in Article 10 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
