According to Human Rights in Iran, an Instagram activist residing in Anzali Port of Guilan province has been arrested by security forces in the city in the past few days and taken to an unknown location.
Anzali Ports police commander confirmed the news: “The police monitored the production area and exchanged information for the city with an Instagram page manager who was disseminating news alleging official security was shutting down the system.”
Col. Majid Hosseini added: “The defendant is a thirty-seven-year-old man who was arrested after being arrested on charges of operating in the media and internet for the administration of an Instagram page.
Repression and violent treatment of media and press activists in Iran comes at a time when, according to the Annual Report of Reporters Without Borders, Iran ranks No. 5 in the world in terms of press freedom and media.
