Human Rights in Iran – Monday, September 5, 2022 – At least 300 people were arrested as security clashes continues against women and girls.

According to the report of Human Rights in Iran, citing from Fars News Agency, on Sunday, September 4, 2022, Ali Khanmohammadi, spokesman for The Headquarters for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, announced the arrest of 300 citizens by security agencies on charges related to ‘hijab’ and ‘chastity’.

“At the same time as the implementation of chastity and hijab plan, intelligence and security agencies provided great help, and in this regard, 300 networks directors were arrested.”, said the spokesman for The Headquarters for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

“In this regard, many movements in the society were active in secret and are still active, in which the Ministry of Intelligence has taken measures to identify (gangs) opposed to ‘chastity’ and ‘hijab’, and have arrested many agents.”, he continued.

Referring to the arrest of 300 managers of hostile networks working to combat the hijab, Khan-Mohammadi said: “Among the very good measures that occurred at the same time as the implementation of the chastity and hijab scheme in the offices, was the identification of more than 300 networks managers who were fighting the hijab in different ways, all of whom were arrested.”

It should be noted that on the evening of Sunday, August 28, 2022, two female citizens at the Mostafavi Mall in Shiraz had warned two other women to observe their dressing (hijab), and there was a physical altercation between them.

Restrictions on women and girls for the type of their dressing (hijab) by some people who call themselves (the agent of virtue), have caused physical conflicts.

The prohibition of the choice of dressing (hijab) for women and girls is a suppression of freedom of opinion and violates Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on December 16, 1966, which emphasizes the right of individuals to freely disseminate their opinions, political and ideological views.

Also, Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights emphasizes equal treatment among people in society and beyond discrimination.
