 Adel Beit Abdollah Arrested By Security Forces

Human Rights in Iran – Monday, September 12, 2022 – Security forces of Shush County in Khuzestan Province arrested Adel Beit Abdollah (Ka’bi).

According to Human Rights in Iran, yesterday morning, Sunday, September 11 (2022), following a raid by security forces on private home of Adel Beit Abdollah (Ka’bi), born in 1997, from Shush County located in Khuzestan Province, confiscating some of his belongings, intimidating and threatening his family, this citizen was arrested and relocated to an unknown location.

Announcing the news, human rights activist Karim Dahimi explained to the reporter of Human Rights in Iran: “Adel Beit Abdollah’s arrest took place without a judicial warrant, and security forces arrested and took him using force and violent behavior accompanied with intimidation of family members.”

“After the arrest of this citizen, security agents transferred him to an unknown location and he is denied the right to phone calls or access to a lawyer, and his family is deeply concerned,” the human rights activist added.

Adel Beit Abdollah was previously arrested by security forces in August 2019 after the execution of his brother, Ghasem Beit Abdollah, who was executed at Fajr Prison in Ahvaz on August 4, 2019, on charges of moharebeh (waiging war against God) along with the execution of Abdollah Karamollah Cha’ab, and had been released after a while.

Suppression of citizens and filing accusations against them based on the scenario of security agencies violates Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on December 16, 1966.

In addition, the right to a fair trial by an impartial judge, interrogator, and investigator is among the rights highlighted in Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The impossibility of the accused to have access to a lawyer, as well as denying the person access to other necessities in a judicial process, violates Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on December 16, 1966.

Article5of the Criminal Procedure Code emphasizes on informing the defendants as soon as possible of the charges against them, as well as the right to access a lawyer and other defense rights mentioned in the law.
