At least 30 Gonabadi Dervishes were sent to exile

Human Rights in Iran – On Wednesday, May 6th 2020, Overall 30 Gonabadi dervishes arrested in Golestan 7th (Street) incident were sent to the determined cities to serve their exile sentence. These Gonabadi dervishes were released from prison in April of the current year by suspending their prison sentences. In the coming days other dervishes will be sent to start their exile terms.

According to Human Rights in Iran, on Wednesday, May 6th 2020, Hadi Shahreza, Saeed Doorandish, Ehsan Malek Mohammadi, Rasouli Hoveida, Saeed Soltanpour, Akbar Biranvand, Babak Moradi, Mehdi Keivanloo, Mohammad Reza Darvishi, Saeed Karimayi, Seyed Mostafa Mir Mohammadi and Ali Ja’far Ahmadi, kianoosh Biranvan, Sekhavat Salimi, Ahmad barakouhi, Majid Rashidi, Mehdi mahdavi, mahmoud Barakouhi, Jafar Ahmadi, AliReza Azadravesh, Roustam Sagvand, Morteza Kangarloo, Mohammad Karmaie, Reza Entesari, AliReza Lak, Ahmad Iranikhah, Mehdi Bakhtiari, Mehdi Izadpanah, Mojataba Biranvand, Sina Entesari, Overall 30 Gonabadi dervishes ware sent to Zabol, Zahak, Saravan, Nehbandan, Sarbisheh, Fahraj and Kahnooj cities in South Iran to start their exile sentences. The issuance of exile sentences against these Gonabadi dervishes is due to the accusations of these citizens in Golestan 7th (street) incident in Tehran.

The informed credible also said: ” Based on the verdicts issued by the branches of Tehran Court of Appeals, each of these Gonabadi dervishes must spend 2 years in exile “.

On April 18th 2020, Human Rights in Iran published a report informing the suspension of the exile sentences of Rasouli Hoveida, Saeed Karimayi, Mohammad Karimayi, Ehsan Malek Mohammadi, Sekhavat Salimi, Babak Moradi, Faramarz Mangiri, Akbar Biranvand, Alireza Lak, Mostafa Mir Mohammadi, Seyed Doorandish, Ahmad Iranikhah, Ja’far Ahmadi, Majid Rashidi, Reza Entesari, Sina Entesari, Hadi Shahreza, Javad Khmisabadi, Morteza Kangaroo, Mohammad Reza Darvishi, Reza Yavari, Mehdi Izadpanah, Akmad and Mahmoud Baraakouhi, Hassan Shahreza, Saeed Kakavand, Heidari Teimouri, Majid Moradi and Mojtaba Biranvand, 30 Gonabadi dervishes due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic up to April 20th 2020.

Previously, there were reports in the media of the sending of Babak Moradi, a Gonabadi Dervish living in the city of Azna in Lorestan province, but after the referring of this Gonabadi dervish to the Security Prosecutor’s Office in Tehran on April 18th (2020), his exile sentence was postponed to April 29th (2020).

Golam-Hossein Esmaeili, the spokesman for the Judiciary, in a news conference with the Iranian domestic media had talked about a decision for the cases of prisoners up to April 29th. The Judicial authority also announced the possibility of suspending the exile sentence and the release of prisoners.

Hadi Shahreza, Saeed Doorandish, Ehsan Malek Mohammadi, Rasoul Hoveida, Saeed Soltanpour, Akbar Biranvand, Babak Moradi, Mehdi Keivanloo, Mohammadreza Darvishi, Saeed Karimayi, Seyed Mostafa Mir Mohammadi and Ja’far Ahmadi are among other 202 Gonabadi dervishes arrested at Golestan 7th (Street) incident in March 2018, which they were sentenced in ambiguous procedures by branch 15 and 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Court to prison and exile. Some of these dervishes were sentenced to flogging.

Also on Tuesday, May 5th (2020), Mojtaba Biranvand and Sina Entesari, 2 Gonabadi dervishes arrested in Golestan 7th incident, were recently released from prison with suspended sentences. They were sent to Mirjaveh county in Sistan and Baluchestan province to serve their 2 years sentences in exile.

Iranian Judiciary has sentenced at least 30 Gonabadi dervishes arrested in Golestan 7th incident to exile. These citizens are sentenced from 1 year up to 2 years exile to some areas in South Khorasan, Sistan and Baluchestan and some areas in central Iran. After the issuance of these sentences by the judge of branch 15 in Tehran Revolutionary Court, Abol-Ghasem Salavati, and Mashallah Ahmadzadeh, the time judge of branch 15 in Tehran Revolutionary Court, the sentences were upheld by Ahmad Zargar, the judge of branch 36 of Tehran Court of Appeals.

It is necessary to mention that the granting of conditional release to these Gonabadi dervishes is due to the recent directive issued by the Judiciary to release politcal and conscience prisoners with 5 years imprisonment or less. Regarding the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the country and the danger of prisoners’ infection to this virus, and considering the New Year and religious ceremonies, on March 17th (2020), the head of Judiciary wrote a letter on conditional release of prisoners in Iran prisons, which was confirmed by Ali Khamenei, thé IRI leader.

Accordin ti conditional release regulation, if the defendans are sentenced up to 10 years in prison, they must spend one third of the imprisonment, but if they have more than 10 years conviction in prison, they must endure half of their sentences. Then they can request for their conditional release in the prison where they are incarcerated. Their request may be affirmed or rejected. Also the prosecutor decides about the approval or rejection of the conditional release.
