Finding an abandoned baby in front of Ameneh Nursery in Tehran

Human Rights in Iran – Wednesday, August 24, 2022 – A disabled baby was found in front of Ameneh Nursery in Tehran.

According to the report of Human Rights in Iran, citing from Hamshahri News Agency, on Monday, August 22 (2022), Fatemeh Arzanian, the deputy of social welfare affairs of Tehran Province, announced the discovery of a physically disabled baby abandoned in front of Ameneh Nursery in Tehran.

In this regard, the deputy of social welfare affairs of Tehran Province confirmed: “The doctor and nurse did the initial visit and we didn’t even allow the midwife to breastfeed the child, because the child might have difficulty swallowing, and they asked the nurse for help in this regard.”

“The police force went to the nursery to prepare a situation report and help was also sought from the social emergency. After doing the initial work at Ameneh Nursery, the emergency room referred this baby to Rafideh’s nursery (nursery for children with disabilities). Now the general condition of the child is good and has been admitted to the nursery.”, Arzanian continued.

The number of babies abandoned in the streets of Iran is increasing while Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, claims the policy of increasing the population, despite the fact that economic problems, poverty and inflation have caused families to be unable to meet their basic needs.

Deprivation of citizens’ social security is expanding while Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights emphasizes the right of people to enjoy adequate social security in terms of food, housing, clothing and social support services. But in Iran, many citizens are systematically deprived of this right.

Also, in the proposed goals of the UNESCO 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs : Sustainable Development Goals), the right of all human beings to enjoy a healthy and standard living environment, appropriate to their dignity and human position, has been explicitly highlighted. But in Iran, after the approval of this document, due to the opposition of Ali Khamenei and his announcement with the sentence that “gentlemen signed a document without our permission”, he removed its implementation from the agenda for the development of the country and strongly opposed it.
