3 Political Prisoners Deprived Of The Right To Phone Calls And Visits

Human Rights in Iran – Thursday, September 8, 2022 – On the order of the Disciplinary Committee of Rajaei-Shahr Prison in Karaj, three political prisoners were denied the right to phone calls and visit their families.

According to Human Rights in Iran, in recent days, Ali Mousanejad Farkoosh, Reza Mohammad Hosseini, and Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, three political prisoners incarcerated in Rajaei-Shahr Prison of Karaj, were denied the right to phone calls for two months, three months banned from visiting in person, and three weeks of cabin visitation.

In this regard, an informed source told the reporter of Human Rights in Iran: “This decision was ordered by the Disciplinary Committee of Rajaei-Shahr Prison in Karaj, in response to the reaction of Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, Reza Mohammad Hosseini and Ali Mousanejad Farkoosh, who protested the arrest, indecision and the filing of a case against Mrs. Nahid Shirpisheh. Accordingly, each of these three political prisoners, along with Arsham Rezaei, were denied the right to phone calls for two months, three months of visitation and three weeks of cabin visitation with their families.”

It should be noted that, earlier, Human Rights in Iran had informed Arsham Rezaei’s deprivation of the right to meet and call, by publishing a report.

On August 13, 2022, these political prisoners wrote a letter of protest against the arrest, indecision and the filing of a case against Mrs. Nahid Shirpisheh, Pouya Bakhtiari’s mother, one of the victims of the November 2019 protests, and demanded her release.  However, on the order of Rajaei-Shahr Prison officials, they were transferred to solitary confinement as a punishment and returned to the public ward on August 17 (2022).

On February 6, 2022, Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb was sentenced in absentia to 1 year of imprisonment by the 2nd Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Shahriar County in Tehran Province on the charge of “propaganda activity against the regime”. He is currently serving a two-year prison sentence on charges of “insulting the leadership” by signing a statement calling for Ali Khamenei’s resignation. This civil activist was arrested by security agents on February 21, 2022, and was taken to the 1st Branch of the Evin Prison Prosecutor’s Office. After he was notified of the enforcement of the sentence, while he had no prior knowledge of his conviction, he was transferred to Ward 4 of Evin Prison to endure his imprisonment. Then he was relocated to Brigade 4 of the Greater Tehran Penitentiary and was transferred to Rajaei-Shahr Prison in Karaj on March 19, 2022.

Reza Mohammad Hosseini was sentenced to 16 years and 6 months in prison by Branch 28 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court on January 25, 2020 on charges of “assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt the security of the country,” “insulting the leadership”, “disobeying the orders of the officers while performing their duties”, “illegal leaving and entering the country”. This ruling was confirmed by Branch 36 of the Appeals Court of Tehran Province and with the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, seven years of the total sentence was finalized for Reza Mohammad Hosseini.

Ali Mousanejad Farkoosh, a constitutionalist political activist, was also sentenced on June 3, 2019 by Branch 28 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, presided over by Mohammad Moghiseh to 5 years in prison on the charge of “gathering and colluding against the country’s security”, 1 year in prison on the charge of “insulting Ruhollah Khomeini”, 1 year of imprisonment on the charge of “insulting the leadership” and 1 year of incarceration on the charge of “propaganda activity against the regime”. The verdict was confirmed on February 29, 2020 by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal of Tehran Province. With the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, Ali Mousanejad Farkoosh has to endure 5 years of the total prison sentence. He was arrested on November 29, 2020 to serve his imprisonment.
