The Number of Arrested Lawyers In Tehran Increases
Human Rights in Iran – Wednesday, September 28, 2022 – Security agents in Tehran arrested three lawyers and transferred them to an unknown location.
According to the report of Human Rights in Iran, Milad Panahipour, Mahsa Gholamalizadeh and Saeed Jalilian, Lawyers, was arrested by security forces on Saturday, September 24, and transferred to an unknown location.
The arrest of the lawyer was after the confiscation of some of his personal belongings, such as mobile phones and some other items, according to the report.
It should be mentioned that Milad Panahipour had gone to Evin Prison’s Prosecutor’s Office to pursue the case of his client Hossein Ronaghi, and after a verbal conflict with the judicial authorities, an order was issued to arrest this lawyer. But there is still no exact information about the reason for this arrest.
As of this report, no information is available about the reasons for the arrest, the legal instances of the charges, and the whereabouts of Mahsa Gholamalizadeh and Saeed Jalilian.
Since the announcement of the death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, a 22-year-old girl who had traveled to Tehran from Saqez to meet with relatives, who was arrested by security police officers on the pretext that the hijab was “inappropriate” and died after being transferred to the Security Police Detention Center in Tehran, there have been widespread protests about the performance of the Morality Police (Gasht-e Ershad : The Guidance Patrol) in various cities of the country.
The repression of citizens and the designation of accusations based on the scenario of security agencies violates Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on December 16, 1966.
In addition, the right to a fair trial by an impartial judge, interrogator, and investigator is among the rights highlighted in Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In Article 5 of the Criminal Procedure Law, it is emphasized on informing the accused as soon as possible about the alleged charges and providing the right of access to a lawyer and other defense rights mentioned in the law.
