Human Rights in Iran – On Friday, May 1st 2020, the Intelligence Department of Sanandaj telephone summoned Adnan Fathi, labor activists living in this county for interrogation.
According to Human Rights in Iran, on Thursday, April 30th 2020, following a phone call, Adnan Fathi, the labor activist residing in Sanandaj, was summoned to Intelligence Department in this city and was questioned about holding International Workers’ Day.
According to a source close to this labor activist, speaking to the reporter of Human Rights in Iran, it was said: ” The focus of the interrogation was based on threats and intimidation of this labor activist, regarding his non-attendance at non-governmental celebration of International Workers’Day “.
Scores of labor activists and citizens are summoned and interrogated by security organs to be prevented from attending International Workers’ Day, although in Principle 27 of Iran’s Constitution there is an emphasis on permission to participate in gatherings without carrying weapons. However the security organs offer different interpretations on their own behalf in the line of restriction and suppression the citizens in Iran.
The suppression of labor activists and the imposition of restrictions on their civil rights are among the most flagrant human rights violations of freedom of expression illustrated in UDHR article 19.
Individuals have the right to access a fair trial by an impartial tribunal, as enshrined in international human rights instruments, as well as article 10 of the UDHR and article 14 of ICCPR.
Article 5 of the Criminal Procedure Code stipulates that the accused shall be informed of the charges and provide access to a lawyer as soon as possible. Other defensive rights are mentioned in law, but extrajudicial actions taken by the security services violate the laws that they themselves drafted and claim to be enforced.
