Ali Nourizad sentenced to more than 4 years in prison
Human Rights in Iran – Tuesday, April 21st 2020 Branch 26 of Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over Iman Afshar, in absentia issued a lawsuit against Ali Nourizad, sentencing him to a total of 4 years and 2 months in prison, also a 2-years prevention of membership in parties and political groups. Ali Nourizad was detained during a protest rally in 2019, followed by the shooting down of the Ukrainian airline PS 752 by IRGC, and after interrogation process he was released temporarily on bail.
According to Human Rights in Iran, on Tuesday, April 21st 2020, Ali Nourizad, son of Mohammad Nourizad, resident of Tehran who was trialed without any prior notice, in absentia by branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over Iman Afshari, was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison on the charge of collision and conspiracy against national security through participating in protesting rallies in 2019, propaganda against the System and insulting the leadership. He was also prevented for 2 years of membership in parties and political groups. The sentence was announced to him the current day. In the case of confirming the sentence by the Court of Appeals and the application of Article 134 of Islamic Penal Code, 3 years and 6 months of this sentence will be enforced for Ali Nourizad.
Speaking to the reporter of Human Rights in Iran, a well-informed source said: According to the lawsuit filed by branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, Ali Nourizad was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison on the charge of collusion and conspiracy against national security through communication with channels outside the country. He was also sentenced to 8 months in prison for his propaganda against the System by uploading some insulting items on the channels. He was acquitted of the charge of Insulting the leadership. For further punishment he was deprived for 2 years of membership in parties and social-political groups.
Ali Nourizad, a citizen living in Tehran, was arrested by IRGC’s plainclothes security forces during a protesting rally against the shooting down of the Ukrainian PS 752 passenger plane. After interrogation in Security Ward 209 of Intelligence Ministry, he was justified about his accusation and then he was released temporarily on bail on February 2nd 2020.
It should be noted that Ali Nourizad, after spending 19 days in solitary confinement was released temporarily on an 850 million Tomans, moreover his father, Mohammad Nourizad, the civil activist, detained in security ward located in Mashhad’s Vakilabad Prison, is sentenced to serve 15 years in prison, s 3-year exile to Izeh and 3 years prohibition of exiting the country. The second verdict for his charge of insulting the leadership, insulting Khomeini ( Former leader of Iran ), disrupting the public opinion and formation of illegal gatherings for discomforting the public order is not still issued.
It is important to mention that after downing of Ukrainian passenger plane by IRGC’S air defense in Khomeini Airport, there was a mass protest rallies in different cities of the country. All the passengers and the crew were killed and the citizens started chanting slogans, demanding to find out the truth and the reasons of this humanitarian catastrophe.
