Zanyar Mohammad-Nejad Arrested By Security Forces

Human Rights in Iran – Monday, September 19, 2022 – Security forces arrested Zanyar Mohammad-Nejad during a protest rally against the death of Mahsa Amini in Tehran.

According to the report of Human Rights in Iran, on Friday, September 16 (2022), Zanyar Mohammad-Nejad, a citizen of Sanandaj residing in Tehran, was arrested by security forces during a protest against the death of Mahsa Amini in front of Kasra Hospital in Tehran and taken to an unknown location.

An informed source told Human Rights in Iran: “Zanyar was arrested by the security forces, along with the beating, during the civil protest that was held in front of Kasra Hospital in Tehran due to the  death of Mahsa Amini, and the follow-ups of his relatives to find out about his whereabouts have been unsuccessful.”

It should be noted that Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, born in 2000, from Saqez, Kurdistan Province, had traveled to Tehran with her family to visit relatives, who was arrested by agents of Morality Police (Gasht-e Ershad : The Guidance Patrol) in front of the Haghani metro station on the pretext of not observing the Islamic hijab, and died after being transferred to the security police headquarters located on Vozaza Street.

Suppression of citizens and filing accusations against them based on the scenario of security agencies violates Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on December 16, 1966.

In addition, the right to a fair trial by an impartial judge, interrogator, and investigator is among the rights highlighted in Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The impossibility of the accused to have access to a lawyer, as well as denying the person access to other necessities in a judicial process, violates Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on December 16, 1966.

In Article 5 of the Criminal Procedure Law, it is emphasized on informing the accused as soon as possible about the alleged charges and providing the right of access to a lawyer and other defense rights mentioned in the law.
