Security Forces Arrested Two Citizens in Iran

Human Rights in Iran – Monday, October 10, 2022 – Security forces in Kermanshah and Piranshahr arrested two civilians and transferred them to an unknown location.

According to the report of Human Rights in Iran, on Saturday, October 8, Seyed Erfan Heidari, a resident of Kermanshah Province, and Milad Elahi, an 18-year-old citizen living in Piranshahr, west Azerbaijan Province, were arrested by security forces.

Milad Elahi’s arrest follows a raid by security forces on his residence, according to report.

As of this report, no information is available about the detaining organs, whereabouts, and charges against these citizens.

Suppression of freedom of speech and opinion violates Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights approved on December 16, 1966, which emphasizes the right of individuals to freely disseminate political and ideological ideas and opinions.

Arbitrary arrest, failure to explain the allegation(s) against the person at the moment of arrest and keeping the accused in custody indeterminately violates Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and also Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights approved on December 16, 1966.

Also, people’s right to a fair trial is one of the inalienable rights that is emphasized in Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Extracting confession under threats violates Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which emphasizes the prohibition of torture.
