Mohsen Lorestani, the artistic activist, is to be trialed by branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran

Human Rights in Iran – Tuesday, April 28th 2020 / The date of the trial of Mohsen Lorestani, the artistic activist and singer was determined by branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. This artistic activist, while wearing a face mask was transferred to the mentioned branch of court in the previous Iranian year and was charged and trialed.

According to Human Rights in Iran, Mohsen Lorestani, the singer and artistic activist will be trialed on Sunday, June 21st 2020 by branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran which will be presided over Mohammad Moghiseh. Mohsen Lorestani was previously charged with corruption on earth by the mentioned branch that was headed by Mohammad Moghiseh. Also this artistic activist had been taken 2 times for trial to this court without informing and notifying his lawyer.

Based on this reportage, in addition to the case of Mohsen Lorestani as the second-degree defendant, there are 3 other defendants who are accused of ” corruption on earth ” and ” forming a gang that produces obscene content using young girls in cyberspace “. The accusations against these defendants may even lead to the death penalty for them.

The second session of the hearing for Mohsen Lorestani was held on January 27th (2020) by branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over Mohammad Moghiseh, and the rest of the trial was postponed to another time.

Also on October, 2nd 2019, Kazem Hosseini, the lawyer of Mohsen Lorestani, while announcing the accusation filed against his client’s latest whereabouts said: ” My client was arrested on March 3rd 2019 at his mother’s house in Saadat Abad, Tehran, and since that time he has been in a state of uncertainty.”

The suppression of artistic and music activists and human rights’ activists and the imposition of restrictions on their civil rights are among the most flagrant human rights violations of freedom of expression illustrated in UDHR article 19.
Individuals have the right to access a fair trial by an impartial tribunal, as enshrined in international human rights instruments, as well as article 10 of the UDHR and article 14 of ICCPR.
Article 5 of the Criminal Procedure Code stipulates that the accused shall be informed of the charges and provide access to a lawyer as soon as possible. Other defensive rights are mentioned in law, but extrajudicial actions taken by the security services violate the laws that they themselves drafted and claim to be enforced.
