Baha’i citizen Farid Zirgi Moghaddam arrested to serve his imprisonment

Human Rights in Iran – Tuesday, October 20, 2020 / Farid Zirgi Moghaddam, a Baha’i citizen residing in Birjand, was arrested and transferred to Birjand Prison to serve a 5-year sentence.

According to Human Rights in Iran, Farid Zirgi Moghaddam, a Baha’i resident of Birjand, South Khorasan Province, was arrested on Monday, October 19 (2020) after attending the Enforcement of Sentences Bureau of the Birjand Courthouse and transferred to Birjand Central Prison to serve his imprisonment. The Baha’i citizen was sentenced to a total of 6 years’ imprisonment in a two-part court case, which applying Article 134 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 5 years imprisonment will be imposed on him. The enforcement of the sentence will cause irreparable damages to Farid Zirgi Moghaddam’s family, because he takes care of the deaf father, the amputed brother, the sick mother and is in charge of them.

This Baha’i citizen was summoned to serve his sentence on October 5th (2020), upon receipt of a written notification from Branch 2 of the Birjand Courthouse.

Farid Zirgi Moghaddam was sentenced to 5 years in prison by Branch 4 of the South Khorasan Court of Appeals, headed by Judge Ebrahim Ramezani and the court’s counsel, Arabzadeh, in September 2020 on charges of membership in a Baha’i illegal organization.

In the second part of his case, this Baha’i citizen was sentenced by Judge Mehdi Shiri Abbasabad to 1 year imprisonment on August 18, 2020, on charges of insulting the sanctities by Branch 102 of the 2nd Criminal Court of this city.

In the first part of the same case, Farid Zirgi Moghaddam was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Birjand Revolutionary Court on June 20, 2020, to a total of 6 years in prison by Judge Ja’far Eslamkhah on charges of membership in an illegal Baha’i organization and propaganda activities against the regime.

On August 3, 2019, a report published in Tasnim, a media outlet close to the government of the Islamic Republic, reported the arrest of Farid Zirgi Moghaddam, did not mention the identity of the Baha’i citizen, but referred to him as a key figure of a “sect.”

Farid Zirgi Moghaddam was temporarily released from the detention center of Birjand Intelligence Department on September 7, 2019, after completing the interrogation process and being charged, by posting a bail of 150 milion Tomans.
