Human Rights in Iran- On Wednesday, April 29th 2020, Sanandaj Intelligence Office with a phone call summoned Mozaffar Saleh Nia, the labor activist and his wife, the residents of this city for interrogation.

According to Human Rights in Iran, citing the free union of Iranian workers, after a phone call Mozaffar Saleh Nia, the labor activist living in Sanandaj along with his wife, were summoned to the Intelligence Office in this city and after their presence in this security organization at 3 p.m, they were questioned about the holding the International Workers’ Day celebrations.

As stated in the report, the focus of the interrogation, which lasted from 3 to 5 p.m, was on holding a ceremony on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, as well as the efforts of citizens living in Sanandaj to cancel the execution of the prisoners. The civil activist couple were threatened that they would not be allowed to attend any non-governmental event under any circumstances.

During the interrogation session, Mozaffar Saleh Nia, after defending his right to participate in the International Workers’ Day, explained the severely bad economic situation of the workers, and considered participating in the International Workers’ Day as one of his civil rights.

The suppression of labor activists and the imposition of security charges against this group of citizens are among the cases violating human rights, and is in the line of the repression of Freedom of Speech in Iran, which there is an emphasis on it in International Instrument of Human Rights, in Article 19 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as in Article 19 of International Covenant on Civil and Politics Rights, adopted on 16 December 1966.

Poverty and deprivation of workers’ social security are on the rise, while Article 25 of the UDHR, and the ICCPR, Iran is a signatory to both, emphasizes the right of individuals to have access to adequate social security in terms of food, housing, clothing and so on. Emphasizing social protection services in cases of unemployment, illness, organ failure, biopsy, aging, or in all other cases where the person’s livelihoods have been lost due to unintentional reasons, but Violent clashes between security and judicial organs and Iranian workers and security allegations for the demands of these people are a clear example of flagrant violation of Human Rights.

Holding protest rallies without carrying weapons is one of the rights accentuated in Article 27 of Iran’s Constitution, which the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran claims enforcing it, however the security organizations offer different interpretations on their own behalf in the line of restriction and suppression the citizens in Iran.
